I'm a terrible MOTHER!!!

Pictures WILL be posted/uploaded. The countdown for finals to be over and dust to settle comes soon.

In the meantime...I'm incredibly selfish and hug and kiss these to men all to myself in between studying for finals, figuring out how to travel with Dezminho, breathing, walking, talking, yep I'm a selfish person, but the big finale of school is in sight folks.

Until the updated pics, I was TOTALLY rude and ungrateful by not properly crediting the absolutely GORGEOUS photography skills of my friend Rachel!

She's EXTREMELY talented and we loved catching up while catching some fun shots. She's hilarious, beautiful, and one of the most upbeat down-to-earth people I know. Again I've been caught being selfish taking up all the goodness and not crediting sources.

The CUTE Christmas ones here are just a preview...hold your breath for the next few (just not too long). My absolute favorite one that makes me all crazy happy is the father/son one with Dezminho on Dayvisson's shoulders! Ah! What a heartbreaker!!

How do Moms do it all?!?

Just as a heads up, this is a "cleansing" post...not many pics can accompany that.

I find myself asking the question "How does it all get done?" more often than not. Thank goodness we're not expected to be perfect or I'd be in big trouble.

I remember pre-natal Kelsi saying things like "I can find time to exercise. It's important, a no-brainer, I got this" and post-natal Kelsi says "If I can find the time to make dinner, I'm a good person." hahahaha

I feel like I need to verbally say: these are my obstacles. And then climb them as I identify them. I remember working at Y-Be-Fit the #1 complaint was "I don't have time", but i know that it's so much more than that. There's obstacles that are not as important that are getting time slots. Period.

With trying to feed a baby, find the nap time (and successfully execute naptime is even a puzzle sometimes), find the study time, find the food prep time of HEALTHY foods, find the calling time, yikes it makes me think the only solution is "I gotta wake up earlier", which also is interesting because studying after baby goes down for the night is the optimal time to study, which makes me think okay I'll exercise WITH baby during the day, which then turns into...well you can't get too sweaty or that's uncomfortable... and then it comes full circle to okay, i got exercise in, am i in anyway neglecting my child?

Welp, working out the kinks is getting easier to figure out scheduling but huge respect for moms that can go to school and take care of more than 1 child. I think that person's name is Ghandi or Mother Theresa..

But the prayer for balance continues and the balance and adjustment seems to be an eternal effort. Here's to the next 24 hours of trying to find it and the respect for those who have gone before...

dunstanbaby.com is really amazing from 0-12 weeks of life (there are 5 words indicative of what your baby is trying to comunicate...hard to believe, but don't take my word for it just check it out)

Even if you youtube dunstanbaby you will have the gist of it. Again, Amazing stuff.

Dr. Karp - don't be afraid to use a binky, it's a natural reflex...he's the man..

The phone is your friend and you can call many of them for help...friends I mean, not phones :)

There's no such thing as a perfect parent or a perfect baby, but there are ways to help your baby feel more comfortable...kind of strange looking methods, but somehow those types of things work...

Have a support group!

Things might not be labeled or designated as "mommy" helpful, but you can be creative, and they're often a lot better quality than stuff that is designated...(sorry if that's tmi)

Diaper changings in UT...sanitizer think about one with lotion :) hahaha

Walgreens diapers. Similar to the quality of pampers...have a diaper changing caddy in different rooms :)

All in all, it's just a picture collage of some really awesome things I ran into. If it helps someone else out there in the future..like my future self...AWESOME!

8 Weeks and Elated

It's been 8 weeks!

8 weeks and we have been gradually getting into the swing of things.

These past few weeks we had a 30 year Aspen Grove Reunion, a few get-t0gethers with the Starr family, a delicious breakfast with the Utah Woods, crock-pot epiphanies, and lots of smiles.

We also had two flat tires, unexpected craziness, the start of school (and homework..yikes!), late nights, and helping with a wedding.

Lots of firsts, craziness, happiness, and more craziness!

But to show a little Da Silva happy, here's one of Dezmen's smiles captured candidly...

I've already started to think about his first birthday theme.

Okay, let's take a step back and think about how big of a sha-bang Brazilians really make out of the whole 1 year birthday...then let's imagine my not so artsy-fartsy way of doing things, a little bit of down-time in between naps and things and just enjoying being a mom, and add up the whole cute factor of firsts of everything and voila...

1 month celebration!! We love you!!

I started to write all that had happend, the birth story and things like that, but I think I'll end up saving it for a journal and spare the extra particulars for our little guy when he asks where babies come from...

On that note, being parents has been life changing to say the least. Dayvisson and I always have seen friends been there and thought out loud, "wow you go to the hospital without a baby, and you come home with one. A new family member with their own little personality..."

While thinking about that today I was just pondering the incredible ways of human life. How we all are created and cared for. I feel like I am always in constant wonder how the human body works and how we live in this world the way we do. But I think being a Mom has even (if possible) raised that amazement to an even higher level.

What's sometimes icing on the cake is how he not only was brought to this Earth and functioning, but also that he knows who his parents are. He knows our voices. He knows my smell. He can't say our names yet, but he knows the most rudimentary things about us as mere humans. And he always wants me around for comfort, support, life. It's a beautiful system of dependence, growth, and love. We give to our children as we have been given.

We love Dezmen beyond words. It's really just been one of my ultimate favorite things on the planet to just watch him smile up at me or make little baby coos and noises, to be happy. I find myself instead of napping, trying to read more about parenting and different things to make him the best little Dezmen he wants to be and I really feel blessed that he's here and that we get to have him in our family.

June 29th come and gone...

So it's been aWHILE since our last post...and I (Kelsi) have since removed myself from most social networking until we're all delivered and Dezmen comes.

Yep that might seem frusterating I think to others, but I think there's only so many times a person can say, "yes...still pregnant."

I love Dayvisson SO much for making light of things that seem to make me stressed out in these moments. For example: Particular fun situations when random people I am not familiar with from church or a class from school come up and ask with love "when's your baby going to be born?" (as if I know the answer...) and in response Dayvisson came up with some pretty good answers...or scenarios i guess. "Well, he's tried to come a few times, but I just crossed my legs and he just wouldn't come." hahaha!

Lately, I'm occupying my time working on drafts of my lit review..turning into betty crocker at times, Mother-in-law (Mainha) has been crocheting like crazy (hat, matching booties, gloves, area rug, and currently blanket), Mom came into town on the 28th and has since taken on the responsibility of "natural inducer" (i.e. 1 hour walks, pedicure..very very nice, mexican food, more walking, etc.), Dayvisson's getting in studying for GMAT and working on his running workout (half marathon/marathon), and life carries on while I try my best not to think about the clock (hard to do with lots of inquiring minds...).

Waiting isn't too bad, it's mostly feeling like a million eyes are magnified on the current situation and it's kind of exhaustive.

Only one day over and I'm already feeling the heat. Over the past 72 hours I've thought seriously about getting a tattoo on my forehead that says "ACOG okays 42 weeks maximum" just to make it known i'm not making things up.

Forgive the ranting. I guess not a whole lot to think about besides trying to be the best Mom I can with the things that I learn. Everybody's different and I don't want to force my opinions on other people, but it can be frusterating when it feels like a lot of opinions get sent your way.

And the cookies are done and out of the oven. Well, here's hoping for our little cookie coming our way soon! Cheers!

The New Place...35 weeks!!

Moved in and it's awesome!
Looking back, the fun week is over and just trying not to count too close or expect things to happen on point, but that doesn't keep things from being exciting.
Baby's room is getting there and we're just looking to add some pictures to the walls and do a little decorating.

Mom surprised us (um, i guess grandma or avo shortly...) and got us the crib which looks lovely and Dayvisson and I couldn't wait to put together. I've spent a lot of time researching quality items for good prices and finally settled on a Graco 4-in-1 that I felt like was a steal of a deal. I love good deals and after getting a lot of advice about getting a crib that was certified, not falling apart, or used, I had looked around and feel really happy with it so far. I felt like it was Christmas just putting it all together and almost cried when it came in the ginormous box (hormones i promise).

We're sticking with blue and brown colors and I'll try and take some pictures of the finished room as we get there, but every step is something I look forward to.

A lot of baby talk, but we're really excited!!

Other news, we're having lots of friends move in and out of the ward which makes me think back to the time that we moved in and not knowing anyone. It's been really nice to get to know so many people, and it's hard to watch so many of them go, but hope they know how much they've meant to us and know they're moving on to bigger and cooler stuff (ie Brazil, NY, SLC, etc..)!!

Dayvisson's working hard and studying for the GMAT more lately since we've gotten a little more situated, but it was really upsetting to see that his half marathon that he's been training really hard for lately just got "postponed". I've never seen anything like that happen before and it's really disappointing to say the least. They postponed the date to the 4th of July and so we're looking out for another day. Again, very disappointing.

Speaking of races, we also won the lottery!!! Wahoo!!!
Not the money winning kind, but the kind that says "congratulations you get to run in the st george desert and discover yourself for 26.2 miles"

Count down is T-127 Days. Wowzers.
It was a great thing last year and it's honestly one of the most organized races I'd ever seen (with all the big running race experience i have - please note sarcasm - THAT said..especially in comparison to the Halloween Half where the mile markers had gotten mixed up or left out..kind of sad, or the recent postponement of the capital race in SLC...).

I've been working on campus at Y-Be-Fit and working on my thesis. Yoga has been my newest exercise of choice along with walking to work and around town has been liberating.

Tomorrow we're really looking forward to taking some awesome pictures with our friend and amazing photographer Marco! I've taken some by myself with my friend Danielle from back home which we loved and were awesome, we just weren't able to take some all together including Dayvisson. So we're really excited to all take pictures together and have some fun.

To 32 Weeks and Beyond!

How time has flown by!

June 29th doesn't sound quite so laughably far away anymore!
Childbirth graduation and certificates have been received, baby showers have come and now gone, our plans to "eventually move back to Provo" have been almost realized, baby's room is coming together, this spring semester has already begun, and we are Rollin'!

The baby showers were amazing and I'm so glad we did a Brazilian/ward baby shower and BYU/American baby shower. I've been to a few of each and I know it can be hard sometimes for there to be a mix of the cultures in terms of just differences in language and celebration ideas (coxinha versus sandwiches). Many thanks to Kika and Breckann, Charity, and Jill for helping and plan them. They were awesome!! It was great to hang out and talk about babies with tons of friends and family!!

Dayvisson and I deemed this "fun week". Fun being: packing, unpacking, decorating, minimal commuting (most likely walking to destinations like work and school which i am THRILLED about! :) BYU now will only be a 10 minute walk away), selling things we don't need, checking out KSL, and some pretty big changes for our family.

We recently sold our mazda, so it also leaves us with one car, which is excellent for the crazy gas prices going on right now. We've joked about the closeness of Walgreens to our new place being within such close distance that should Dezmen want to visit Daddy at work, that can be arranged :)

Lots of dreams about how life will change! Lots of dreams of firsts of everything including the diaper changes, talking, walking, crawling, sitting up, moving in general, smiles, laughs, and cries. I'll admit to singing to him already and as funny as it sounds it feels like he really likes the lullabye: "Baby mine" from the Disney movie dumbo. I'm CRAZY about lullabies!! If I haven't already said it, I'm really looking forward to singing him to sleep, bathing, and reading books like "Goodnight Moon" to him. I know we feel so much love for him already and we're excited to meet him SOON!

I guess we've mentioned it here and there, but we've settled on a name for our little tough guy. We decided it had to be a "D" name, Portuguese/English friendly, hopefully 2 syllables (long story), and kind of unique but heard of. Pretty tall order.

After all that, we also decided his middle name should start with a "J" just because should he want to use his initials later on in life, cool with us. I've always liked DJ as a name and it just "feels" good. So those were our initial ideas and we've come up with and our HAPPY and EXCITED about:

Dezmen Josef Da Silva

I am in LOVE with the spelling of the first name just because I feel like it's perfect (Dez = 10 in portuguese and men = men in english. Super clever right?). And it's a plus because of the whole 10 men sounds like a solid strong man in the future. Josef we decided on because of 2 reasons, family name and spiritual significance.

We're Having a Boy!!!

A quick recap of this past month:
Dayvisson's been busy with work and studying lately along with being THE best husband I could ever ask or hope for. He's also been really diligent about working out on the set plan he has to run a half marathon this spring before "the little man" comes. Working hard and having some fun on his weeks off this month has been a lot to look forward to.
As for me, lots of school work, working, and my strength training class have all been part of the regimen. It's really funny though to notice how much more tired I am at the end of the day...well almost end of the day. These days I'm looking at sleeping around 7 or 8, which is a shocker, but also good for the 3 of us.
February 8 -
Jill, Dayvisson, and I got to watch on a sonogram jumbo-tron as we got to sneak a peek at our baby! Every time a student in one of my classes would ask, "what do you think you will have?" my response was always, "A healthy baby! Hopefully not with 5 arms!" hahahaha It made looking at all of the baby's organs all the more exciting, not to mention the human body alone is extremely fascinating to me as it is. Blame it on the hormones I guess and the fact that I love the area of health, but I was sobbing by the first picture we got to see of the brain, kidneys, ossified bones, the tiny hands and feet! It was so exciting that part alone!! But when the time came to find out boy or girl, we were so excited to see we were having a boy!! I immediately looked at Dayvisson to tell him we had better find an awesome name. Hahahaha!
After that, I had planned an ice cream party with the girls from the grad program to celebrate and just hang out in general (it has been a rough few weeks of non-stop studying and assignments). So, we got some ice cream (meanwhile celebrating in the parking lot, no details will be had there :) ) and headed home.
We immediately got on skype to talk with our friends/family in Peru The Freitas to let them know the news, followed by calls to Great Grandma Petty, Grandma/Grandpa Wood, and Grandma/Grandpa Da Silva.
After that, we went to Provo to Charity's (one of the girls in the grad program) and had some ice cream and good conversation to celebrate and hang out.

It was a great day, one that I feel will and has changed our connection with our future son to build a connection for his future. We're so excited to have him in our family and excited for the new adventures we'll all share. Preparation-wise we've started couponing for diapers and wipes, we've purchased a "travel system" (car seat/stroller combo...see above), and for whatever reason be it language excited or just excited in general...one of my favorite things to look for is baby books! I remember times at Aspen Grove and some of the best moments with all the little kids was reading and singing to them to keep them calm. And I'm really excited to stock up on a little library of Portuguese and English board books that will be memorable and helpful in the future.

Christmas and New Years!

Looking back on 2010, lots of great things!

Kelsi ran a Marathon in St George in October and a half-marathon for Halloween while 8 or 9 weeks pregnant, Dayvisson's working in Provo, Dayvisson got certified as a Pharmacy Tech, We both graduated "officially" from institute (awesome!!!!), Kelsi graduated with her bachelor's and got accepted to grad school, Kelsi got 2 new awesome jobs at BYU that she LOVES in teaching and consulting, Dayvisson ran his first 4-miler for Thanksgiving, we celebrated our 3rd year anniversary in Sun Valley Idaho and Rexburg where it all began, oh hey! we got pregnant!, we moved to a new apartment, Kelsi played rugby for BYU (pre-pregnancy), Dayvisson finished MBA essays and signed up f0r the GMAT, we had lots of friends and relatives come stay in our "spare-oom"(Rodrigo, Marcelo, Jill, Kevin, David, Kelsi's Mom), celebrated Todd's wedding, celebrated friends weddings, Kelsi started grad school, and Dayvisson's almost finished his year on the night shift!!!!

Christmas we spent in California again, which was great to see family and celebrate with the CA Woods, but we're extremely hopeful that we can make it to Brazil for our whole little family. However, we had a great time being together for the whole week! This makes it Dayvisson's 4th Christmas away from home, so that's why all the nostalgia. Every year I think about how tough that is to have a cold christmas instead of the beach christmas with your family and all the traditions he's accustomed to, so here's hopin!!!

CA Christmas we got to go to Ghiradelli Square and SF, spend time with family, watched a few movies, and spent a rather unusually quieter Christmas. Since about week 11 or so of this pregnancy, this baby does not i repeat NOT good with meat or meat smells or any of the stuff that before would have meant "put some SHRIMP on the BAR-B!! Let's call it a COOK-ouT!" In Utah in our little apartment Dayvisson's been more than sweet about being understanding by grilling his meal outside while I hide and open windows in whatever room I'm in...hahahaha! Unfortunately in CA, and fortunately, people do eat meat and eat it inside. That meant turkey, crockpot pulled pork, carnitas, lentil soup (i know it sounds like there's no meat in there...but hey!), Costco's glorious glazed ham that I am usually over the moon about. Needless to say, I'd been spoiled in Utah with my vegetarian ways.

At 15 weeks now, I'm crossing my fingers this kid will let me back into the carnivorous world any day now and eat a normal sized meal. if not, hey I've gotten creative with meals like a handful of almonds, a few clementines, carrots and ranch, and a glass of milk. I love our baby so much already and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make sure they're healthy. It's a mad world we live in. I have never been at a table in my life and thought "how can i put some of this down?" AND I know it can be a bajillion times worse!! Some women have to get IVs?!?! So baby, let's DO THIS!!!!

Waitin for a California Christmas!

Exactly 7 days until we fly into Oakland International!

Considering that finals are over, it's a long time to wait, but you gotta do what chya gotta do. Work is work.

Speakin of the lil' tike...we're now at 12 weeks along, which constitutes a 3 month count. I remember always tellin prego friends at 4 1/2 months they were practically there!! hahahahaha. Foolish child I can be. I now know better.

That's kind of how my personal mind works...I get really excited when I get half way through things like...my workout, a marathon, the school semester, school projects, school performances. I don't know if that's common, but I really like to break things down and wait for the middle..WHICH we are not even at...but just knowing it's steadily approaching, i have a feeling this won't be one of those things..

MOSTLY i think it won't be one of those things because usually those things don't require certain food groups to be eliminated from your preferences...ie everything but bread products and cheesy stuff (like mac and cheese...we're like this *fingers crossed). Yep I have now become a vegetarian...

If u also understand anything about Brasilians, u know that "vegetarian" is not in their vocabulary...not churrasco, not picanha, not coracaos de galinha *chicken hearts*, yeah so even mentioning that u're a vegetarian might be a potential cuss word. Welp...hope this kid will eat some cheesey bread ne?

Baby's On the Way!

What happens after 3 years of marital bliss??

So we're very excited for this next chapter in our life and wanted to share it with all our friends!

Which brings me to my next point of our long blog-silence for the past little bit.

It's been awhile since we've posted, but it's really hard to try to keep something so exciting for personal reasons...

forgive me for not writing in awhile friends/family because all I can think about sometimes is "gee I hope I can start eating real food again OR golly gosh darn i love looking at little shoes, socks, clothes OR etc..."

Brasilian Domestication Project

So this past weekend, I (kelsi) was issued the challenge of making authentic Brasilian food to share with some co-workers of mine in our program. Sometimes I really think I can do things in no-time flat and they end up being done in...a lot more time! But hey! 2 hours of cooking turned out to be WORTH the wait!

FYI: Pumpkins at Macys (the grocery store, not the department one hahaha), are only 9 cents a lb! What a steal!! I'll have to post pictures! The little guy was commented by the checker to be "the best pumpkin I'd ever seen!" Yes, we are proud parents of a 5 pounder orange wonder and we're thinkin it's a male...possibly will name him "Curt". He was 69 cents people! Lucky parents we are! hahahaha Funny enough this will be our first pumpkin we have EVER carved...I can never seem to have the gust-O to purchase something that will decay momentarily...but this was a deal so what could i say?

Anyway! The fare was complete with authentic beans with coveeeeee...don't know how to spell THAT one..., rice in our NEW and awesomely exciting rice cooker from the great and spacious COSTCO, saladinha (tomatoes and onions chopped by our talented participants), passionfruit juice, and wait for it...pudin for dessert!

So I say I'm Brasilian domesticated now because today I'm required to bring and make yet again pudin de leite. Suffice it to say the world will not spin of pudin does not exhist...so there will be some for our Ward Activity tonight. AWESOME!

Also in Portuguese news...we have about 40 names to work out that are at least half Portuguese originated...Guarda, Portugal. I told Dayvisson it would be cool to finish the VERY LAST EPIC casamento in the new temple in Portugal!!!!! This was a spectacular idea until Dayvisson kindly reminded me that it would be at least another 3 years before it was completed and our ancestors would not like to probably wait anymore time...yeah ying and yang y'all. That's what it's all about. So we will be making some double trips or getting creative here in these next months to reunite with eachother!

Another few days until Dayvisson's off!!! I'm starting on putting together a lit review to hopefully finish my program (or my thesis and defense) in at least a year and a half!! Pudin is cooking!!! Preparing for the Halloween half marathon next week (what the devil get I get talked into!?!?!). Making lOaDs of brown rice! And a partridge in a pear tree...

St George and Since...

It's been aWHILE since the last update!
Since then, Kelsi can now say she's a marathoner! Very exciting.
Both Dayvisson and Kelsi gave talks in PORTUGUESE (straight up) a few weeks ago...Kelsi attempted without it being written...keyword here was attempted and followed the spirit.
Dayvisson has begun the GMAT study-marathon.
We started going to institute..religiously..which has been in a single word AMAZING. We go to UVU (Dayvisson said it was the best institute experience and recommended it..so...WE GO!!). We love the Friday once a month class for married couples where they provide dinner and have 2 wonderful speakers. We're also going to the Joseph Smith History class as well, which is also very good (teacher is grrrrrrrrreat!).

For Dayvisson's week off this past week...what can I say, it's been a BLAST!!
We went this past Friday to a Brasilian party where they had an AWESOME DJ (best dance we've been to in a while), and we heard that after we left the cops came to shut them down because of "disturbing the peace". Aweesomeeee! :) Juuuuust kiddin. We also watched Karate Kid..pretty decent for a remake.

Saturday Dayvisson went paint-balling for an elders quorum activity, Kelsi went to ZUMBA for 2 hours...weirdy. And we had an awesome dinner with the Nettos family. Fernanda looks awesome and she is ready to rock and roll to receive the newest member of their family any day now!!!

Sunday we had a great lunch and went to a Musical fireside for our ward, which was so beautiful. Very talented singers and wonderful musical selections! Not to mention the refreshments were pretty much a 4 course meal. And for some reason, it felt like the holidays are no longer months away...it feels like days until we start listening to Christmas music! Hahahaha!

It's been a great week together!! Looking forward to our anniversary in less than a month!!! Holy COW!! Happiest 3 years!!

The Smith Field House RoomS of requirement

So this is what was in the secret room...

This past week we got to actually see the few secret rooms that I've only kind of "guessed" were there in the Smith Fieldhouse that are reserved for grad students.
It pretty much was like looking into the room of requirement from Harry Potter.
Not exactly THIS nice, but having a locker that a 6 ft girl could fit into was pretty exciting, and in our own room!!

Lesson plans? i will take those over midterms ANY day.
Dayvisson gave me the big back to school blessing and it was better than I could have hoped for.
Anything is possible with the gospel.
If Dayvisson helps me THIIIIIIIISSSSS much in this life...how could anyone not realize the power that God contributes.

The pictures from our recent road trip are more on facebook since it's 5000000000 x 10102939420439 times easier to post. We're more of a picture/scrapbook type of blogging fam in case anyone hasn't noticed..

SO, since getting back from our roadtrip (which was about 3 days in Vegas, 4 days in Anaheim a block away from Disney :), and 3 days in St George)...we've gotten back into the swing of work and preparing for work/school.

This past week:
- Dayvisson's gone back to working the week on schedule,
- We did baptisms for the dead for my Mom's side of the family with Jill on Wednesday morning which was incredible,
- Kelsi started training to teach activity classes on campus (raquetball and swimming!! yeah-yer!)

Also just a RANDOM point...I've been doing my long runs in preparation for the st george marathon in October. One thing I've been finding really not so fun and sometimes REALLY fun is to experiment fueling.

JUST FOR ANYONE WHO MIGHT BE WONDERING ABOUT FUELING FOR A MARATHON...gels are probably theeeee most disgusting thing I have ever tasted in my life.. SO, if u ever find yourself wondering what u can do to help yourself out on a 2+ hour big run...that might not be something you'd enjoy. I purchased a few to try, but literally almost gagged on the pavement...oh boy! These types of things really fascinate me if I do things all tudo certo...but if not, YIKES! FUELING IS HUGE!

I know everyone is different, but I honestly haven't a clue who would actually promote those things..it was strawberry banana poweber gel. just putrid. i'm glad to throw that option out after the test trial today! hahahahaha

So good luck this week to everyone who's starting the school life back again. Rolling up the sleeves and ready to go! Hasta le vista!

I guess it was a little over a week ago...but the water balloon fight that we had at BYU was part of what totally made the weekend awesome!

What a Week!

Sometimes...on occasion...Kelsi forgets she's American...

At least while cooking!
So, to my surprise making a very "American" dish like Taco Salad seemed to light up my cooking life! How does that happen? I guess after making beans, rice, and all things considered "real food" I forget what I used to have as a kid, and not all of it was kraft macaroni and cheese!
hahahahaha!

For some reason, this week's cooking adventures were weirdly familiar, but not at the same time.
Other news...
Last weekend was probably one of THEEEEE best ever!!
It was Festa Junina which meant: amazing "real food", some forro and Brazilian Square dancing (i can't spell it in portuguese), meeting some awesome people and practicing portuguese, AND to top it all off...FUTBOL!!!! Yes my friends, the soccer fanatic will never fade...even after years of being an old maid...i'm afraid my kids will have to put up with my insatiable soccer tendencies...

Other than that, the weekend was so awesome because...
Dayvisson had his week off!! Looking back, not quite sure exactly what we did,
BUT
just being together is happy and good feeling enough to know life is complete.
And we had a wonderful Sunday. Just resting, good meetings, had pot roast and stuff for lunch with peach cobbler for dessert and got to see Kika, Helga, and Olivia.

Got to listen to Elder Holland speak up at Aspen Grove!

OKAY ANDDDD...
We found out we qualify to both graduate from institute together, which is fun (Dayvisson and me...not Elder Holland and me...that would be kinda awesome, but that's not happening..hahaha).
So, we're planning on taking more institute classes in fall together at UVU,
one which includes a dinner/gospel study night on every other Friday!!!
Doesn't that sound AWESOME!?!?
Whomever thought that one up...deserves a hug. Very inspired. :)
ALSO...

our cousin Tyler just got back from his mission this week! So that is also very exciting for the Utah Woods and just remembering when Todd and Ryan got back...so twilight-zoney to think that happened...4 years ago? more or less.
BUT...today we study, I run 20 miles today (yikes?!?! What kinda crazy does that?!?!),
and we'll see what else, but life is happy, fun, normal, and simple for now.

Fantastic!

In today's recent recipe I tried a take on one of dayvisson's favorite chocolate chip cookie recipes, but didn't have all the ingredients...so I substituted! and didn't really measure a few things I should have...

In all fairness, i think i could have saved it had a REALLY not been lazy...HOWEVER, the cookies turned out more like "cake" or those cake cookies you make from the box. I substituted 1/2 C butter and 1/2 C apple sauce where it should have been 1 C JUST shortening...

BUT in my defense, they taste like cookies. They smell like cookies. They even LOOK like cookies, but they are no where near THE cookies.

AND if you haven't heard about allrecipes.com ...well u should. Because it's awesome.

What a crazy weekend!

Friday night was in the hospital visiting our friend Andrea Campbell with Jill, Kristen Oviatt, and Justin Benson. We made balloon animals to cheer her up, joked around, and caused a little mischief around the hospital...but all in good humor. We also got a call from Todd announcing his engagement to Alaina earlier that evening and are very excited for them both. They've set a date for August 14th in Bountiful and we're hoping that Dayvisson might get that week off to also be free to help Kristen with her graduation bbq on the 13th. We'll see how it goes!

Saturday Todd and Kelsi played in the Freedom 3v3 Tournament that happens around the 4th every summer. Unfortunately it wasn't the usual 8 games, there were only 4, so we were a little disappointed about it, but played on. We ended up with a pretty low record to say the least, but it was enjoyable. 1/4.

After that, Kelsi went running another 5 miles to try and reach her 14 mile quota for the day, but probably fell a few short. However, good running day!

Funny enough, Dayvisson anticipated my over-eagerness of hanging out and let me know he was tired when he said that morning"don't wake me up from sleeping unless we are going somewhere right then and there." hahahahhaahaha! SO, i was a very courteous quite stepper around the house to get ready to go down to the Veteran's Pool & the usual KFC once a year guilty pleasure, woke him up, and we rolled out.

Veteran's was perfect! Only 2 hours, but was the perfect physical ending to the perfect physically exhausting day! Jill, Danny, Todd, Dayvisson, and I all went. It was a blast!

After the traditional stuff, Dayvisson had to leave for work and I was the tag-a-long at the fireworks festivities where we sat on the Provo Temple lawn to watch the Stadium of Fire fireworks. Unfortunately, I get pretty nauseous at the end of the evening and wanted to go visit Dayvisson at work to see if there was any meds he'd recommend. I slept the whole way home to Orem and fell dead asleep when I reached home.

The actual fourth? We went to our good friends' Marshal and Nani's baby blessing and brunch, which was so exciting!! I loved how Marshal did the blessing in Portuguese and then it was immediately translated and then Nani bore her testimony in English. Hats off! That was probably the coolest thing everrrrr!! I hope I will be able to reach that state of epic bi-lingual-ness when we reach that point for our family.

After that, we came home and took naps/slept for awhile, and I woke up naturally after 3 hours. Jill is still sick and asked for a blessing, so I rushed down to Provo to get her some meds, and brought down a few staple ingredients to make her dinner. It's been a week that she's had this cough/sore throat/raspy voice/congestion, so she's pretty upset to say the least.

Later, came home and brought Dayvisson some of the spoils, said goodbye, and really grateful to be married to such an inspired man. I always feel like he gives some of THE best world class advice. So excited for the future and the next few chapters of our life together!! He really will be the best father!

And in random news, I've recently really gotten into Jane Austen! After watching "Becoming Jane" I really was curious to look into more of her work...so I youtube'd sense and sensibility to check it out. Highly recommend Jane Austen and really feel ignorant for not running into such an accomplished female author sooner.

Provo Riverwoods 10 mile did not disappoint, but the t-shirts kinda did...

Here's the running crew, looking fab-u-lous!

So, I decided to sign up for a the Riverwoods 10 mile a couple months ago (a couple meaning two :)...and asked a friend to register a few weeks ago...and she decided to invited a few of our other friends! How awesome! We had a group of four of us to run down the beautiful shady riverwoods trail.

I highly recommend it to anyone! I was quicker than I anticipated, so that was good, and the overall experience was very postive. It makes me really excited for the St George in October. And hopefully Dayvisson and I can do something together sometime this year or the next. It's just an awesome way to train, feel good, and have a goal.

I'll be posting post-race pictures soon (sorry i'm a little lazy about that sometimes..)!

In other news, Jill's back to stay with us until she moves into an apartment closer to campus. Dayvisson's enjoying the every other week of his job (as am I!!!!!). We cleaned our car inside and out (i know, very exciting). Our friend Marcelo will be in town for a week visit in a couple weeks. And Eclipse is coming out on the 30th! Very exciting.

So, i promise that i won't be lazy tomorrow and I'll actually post some pics...and CLAUDIA i gotta get u urs!!!! So we can swap gmail add's and get the ball rolling. I hope I hope!
Just reflecting on our past vacation with the Freitas Fam and some Fam in Benicia. It really was a rejuvinating and jump start vacation. A great way to recharge our love and appreciation for friends, having fun, and remembering the bigger picture!! And in Benicia, I think I've been somewhat of a slacker with cleaning, but really remembered what tough service can feel like. Not to mention bearing a more comfortable and confident testimony to members of our family that we know of the power of the plan of happiness. And it was way cool to apply Elder Bednar's talk from last conference, just really felt that it spoke volumes on what we can improve on in very simple ways.

So, it's back to work. Back to the mundane life of routine and scheduled times, which doesn't involve hiking a historic mountain, living in a foreign country, or looking at a blast from the past...but it's great to have a happy constant wherever we go and wonderful that we have been able to do everything together. What a blessing!

This vacation has been a wonder already and we're so glad to post tons more pics soon, but for now, this will have to suffice for the time being. We just wanted to give a sneak peek...hahaha!

St George Here We Come!!!!

So my good friend Alicia Hughes Baer who was in some of my personal training classes, introduced me to the idea of enjoying training for a marathon. It was just after she ran the 2009 St George Marathon in October when we were heading down to do the annual Huntsman World senior Games Carotid Artery Screenings with our favorite professor Dr. Hager (he's going to be my advisor for my ultimate thesis for my masters over the next 2 years!!). She got me all excited about the reality of actually doing one, which has never been a huge dream, but she really got me psyched about the experience!! And the only other "competitive" run I've done was the Cougar Run 5k back in fall of 2008...

Really, I always tell people since trying out for the BYU Soccer team last February, that the best motivation to stay healthy is taking your mind off of the actual health, and focus on a fun goal instead! So, I'm really walking the walk and I've been preparing for my first ever 10 miler at the Riverwoods scheduled for June 12. I started training weeks ago, but have really enjoyed improving my times and running the long distances, more than I originally thought! I have always known myself to be motivated by kicking some kind of ball or chasing someone down who had some kind of an advantage. Or sprinting short distances, but this will be a real start to my hopes of a life long relationship with distance runs.

And, Dayvisson and I have been preparing for Peru next Thursday (holy cow! less than a week away!). I've been trying to imagine what running on the streets of Peru will be like...sights and sounds, my ipod telling me how far I've gone, and hoping I can really come out strong (maybe improve my O2 with the elevation!!!). Dayvisson might have to hold me back from running switch backs up Machu Pichu! hahaha!

Anyway, besides the 10 miler, I have exactly 16 weeks to get ready for my first ever marathon in St George. This is equally exciting because May 7 (today) is the day you find out if you actually have a spot in the race, and I am SOOOOOOO relieved that I'll have one!! I planned on running it with Alicia, but we'll see how we can motivate each other from states away. I'm really optimistic about our training schedules this summer and hoping to pump some of that motivation in Dayvisson's direction to do something that he would love. We've thought and talked about doing a triathlon for at least a year, but we'll see what the future brings and what we can plan on.

ALSO really exciting news! Dayvisson and I sat down at our last FHE and were talking about the future months of his job. It looks like his weeks off will fall on Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas this year!!! WOW!!!!! We're talking about a few ideas, but seriously SO excited for the possibilities!

For now, just hope we're prepared for all we're planning for and we can improve in our goals! Look out St George!!!

Peru and Renewal

It's so funny!! Dayvisson and I have bought tickets and planned going to see our friends/family in Arequipa Peru for 2 weeks and 2 days, yet it seems to surreal to imagine! Luckily, we got a pseudo taste of Peru by going to an awesome Peruvian restaurant near the mall for a date night last Friday. It was so delicious and SO much like Brazil! We even went crazy over a side of Yucca! It makes me so happy when Dayvisson kinda "lights up" for yucca on the menu! :) We love our Brazilian food!

Today however, we went to our friend Craig's mother's funeral. She passed away May 1st due to a terminal case of cancer in her brain. Extremely difficult to imagine and I just have a hard time dealing with anyone's loss. It makes me think of the possibility of losing my own parents and no matter when that might happen, I know that whomever goes through a loss, there must be the support of a Loving Heavenly Father. Craig gave a summary of his mother's life and that was when I think I lost it, but he was so strong and had wonderful memories to tell. I really admire that. After the service at the church, they dedicated her site at the Provo Cemetery.

There is something so odd to me about new life and old life and how they respond to eachother...I mean when children or infants attend funerals or go to grandma's house or go to a senior center..it just seems like looking at the broad spectrum of things in a really unique way. I've always felt one optimistic way in taking care of children and in a different solemn way when talking with older adults.

After the services, Jill, Dayvisson, and I all went to the temple. The experience was so fitting. I felt the spirit so strong and felt so much love for the plan of salvation. There's nothing like the smiles of the temple workers and doing temple work to make you feel so grounded in doing something positive. I felt like I recognized one of the sisters faces to be one of my favorite teachers Dr. Barney, but she didn't have his last name and was just a jokester about it all. As I was there I was just bawling and was quickly comforted by that specific sister whom I felt like I knew so well. Just so uplifting! The temple grounds in Provo are actually looking alive and beautiful now with lots of colorful tulips and flowers. Gorgeous!

It was a beautiful day, a beautiful reminder, and my testimony is always growing of the truthfulness of the plan of salvation and the happiness it can bring!

And with that, we're excited to have such an opportunity to go to Peru next week! Hope I don't forget my sunscreen!!! :) See you soon Freitas family!!!

A Nostalgic Thought

Just thinking back to the time when Dayvisson and I were first dating...it really is nostalgic to think that we have been lucky enough to get to each other's graduations. I still remember all the fun pictures we took then and how we were at that stage of life. Not to say that 3 years has been an extremely long period of time, but it's been quite the jump and quite the milestone to look back on.
So glad that we were fortunate enough to have received quality educations from such inspiring universities, no matter how much I've complained about finals and tests in the past! :) It's been 4 years that we've known each other and all 4 have been around one gospel inspired campus or another.
Thanks BYU and we're both COMIN BACK FOR MORE!

Graduation and upcoming events!

So, since the last "update" we have been through a few momentous occasions.

As was hopefully mentioned, I was planning on graduating on June 23 and guess what?!? That day has finally come and gone. It was pretty crazy overall, but a day that I don't think you're supposed to forget. Mom, Dad, Grandma, David, and even Jill flew in (from Jerusalem of course) for the big 4 kids graduating. Ryan and Rachel, Todd, and myself all walked the line. Unfortunately we weren't organized about walking together, but I guess we really exercised freedom of expression at 8 am on Thursday and two at 11am. So glad we are all individuals...

We had lovely meals including a wonderful Sundance dinner in the mountains, Carabbas, and my personal wish list fulfilled...Dayvisson at the barbecuer. Dayvisson is THE MAN...just sayin. Complete with bbq pineapple, bacon wrapped chicken (my own personal favorite), filet mignon, new york steak, pork, and garlic beef! Just thinking about it makes my mouth water...

I was actually quite stressed the few days before graduation believe it or not! For one reason or another, I put it upon myself to organize large events for the Wood Family. New York, Christmas outtings, and any unusual visits just to name a few. However, this time my Dad assured me that I would not have to do it this time, which was very relieving. Unfortunately, that left a lot of stressful situations for me since a few different things. BUT, to make a long story short, thank goodness for Dayvisson's intuition! Seeing my struggle Dayvisson had me take some deep breathes and then figure out what I wanted to do, which was: 1. Take some pictures 2. Have a homemade Brazilian BBQ Both of which TOTALLY happend and were awesome. So grateful! It was all wonderful!

Since graduation, Dayvisson's been adjusting to the night shift, PASSED the Pharmacy Tech Test!!!!!!, and is helping work out arrangements for our Peru trip on May 13th! I've been starting my new job at Y Be Fit on campus, studying for a few different certifications, and trying not to freak out about not really knowing any legitimate Spanish for Peru (and helping a little as well). Also, we have Jill (my little sister) staying with us for the rest of the summer since her job at Yellowstone wasn't all it was cracked up to be. So, we've been having her stay with us in our spare bedroom and cooking just a little bit more to compensate. It's been so awesome to have her stay with us!!! We're hopeful that she'll be able to find a job that she can apply to her major and enjoy.

Just a plug for our AMAZING photographer, Marco Greis! Man, if anyone is looking for a photographer for literally ANY occasion, he is your man! We had a great time just having fun and taking some wonderful and memorable shots! I can't say enough nice things about him! Look no farther! He brought out the personalities of all the people he shot in our photos, accentuated the positive, and came up with some really creative ideas. Couldn't be happier.

It's almost been a year since I posted last!?!?!?!?!

The year in review since August:
-Dayvisson surprised me with a fun camping trip in the mountains of Springville (apparently Spanish Fork Canyon), which was amazing! Also, it was a big treat to come back to a "lightly remodeled" basement. What a stud. :) -August

Fall semester:
-Dayvisson has been busy preparing to take a pharmacy tech test this April and going to classes.
-November we celebrated our anniversary at Bear Lake which was a BLAST!
-Thanksgiving I was sick and wasn't able to visit the cousins, so we had an impromptu Thanksgiving with some friends who were in Provo.
-Christmas we spent in Benicia with some of our family.
-New years we spent in Orem with the Brazilian Ward. BEST decision EVER! Food, fun, music, and great people to celebrate!

Winter:
-Early January we got to have Jill stay with us for a little less than a week before heading to Jerusalem, which was awesome! SO excited for her there, but oddly enough while I'm writing this, she's coming home in 2 weeks.
-February had my birthday, so we went to the usual free meal at Tucanos, but this time went to SLC and was pretty disappointed about service and silly things. HOWEVER, we got another car BECAUSE...
-WE MOVED! Early March late February we moved into a 4-plex, which we LOVE!! Tons more room, friends and family to have come visit, for some reason I've realized it is more relaxing, and we love waking up to natural light. We miss our old place, but happy to be moving on which MEANS...
-We're in a new WARD! We decided it would be a great time for me to keep up with Portuguese and be more familiar before we start adding to our family.
-Dayvisson has been transferred to a store in Provo, which means he'll have an easier commute for work, be working on a regular schedule, but it will be at night, so it's a change.
-I also got accepted to grad school at BYU's Exercise Science program for Fall 2010, which was really exciting (and still very much is!), and will be working with one of my professors ever!
- David came and spent a weekend with us to hang out, which was awesome! We went to Pizza Pie Cafe which has really become one of our favorite places and apparently a lot of others as well. We saw The Blind Side at the Dollar, he came to my rugby game (oh yeah, I joined rugby in January!), we went to Zuppas (we were first timers, and it was also quite good), Costco for the usual free sampling Saturday, Comedy Sports (a guy actually proposed to his girlfriend which was probably one of the weirdest things I've ever seen in a skit), Betos, family dinner, and taking him back to the airport. We did a lot and had a great time!
- Mom came and spent this very last weekend with us from March 31 - April 4. We took her to Charlie Chows for dinner Wednesday when she came in. Thursday we thought we'd get in the pool at the Y but it didn't work out and she came to my Teachings of the Living Prophets class, Exercise Prescription with funny Dr. Allsen, and surprised Ryan in one of his ethics classes for his birthday. We went to Gold's to swim, the bookstore to get a few sweatshirts she was interested in, L&T for lunch with Todd, Rodizio for Ryan's birthday, and Ryan and Rachel's for birthday cake that Rachel made which was awesome. Friday, we took a 1.5 mile walk at a close park, checked out dresses at DownEast and was somewhat disappointed, went to my ACSM class where she was my guinea pig for a client testing, then back up to Gold's to swim for an hour, then home to change, Kohl's to window shop, Todd's soccer game at the IPF, and Cafe Rio for dinner. Saturday we got tickets for the morning session and afternoon Todd had tickets so Mom got to see a full day's worth of conference live. Sunday we just went for the morning session for Easter and came home to have a family dinner and watching conference at home. It was a busy, but fun weekend.

Future 2 weeks:
Graduation, finals, registering for certification tests, Dayvisson's new job, hopefully going to sign up for the St George Marathon for October, and looking for an exercise goal for the next month before Peru...

Summer Plans:
- We're MORE than excited to say we're going to Arequipa, Peru to go visit our friends/family and tour the town! We leave in May around the 13th! Just verrrry excited!
- I got an internship at Y B Fit for the spring/summer and also very excited to be applying what I'm learning. Also signed up for an assistanship job on campus, which i am ecstatic to start up in fall. Basically, I will be teaching sports classes on campus like jogging, weight lifting, HEPE type classes, and of course SOCCER!

I have an English Class every Saturday where I help out a friend from church and answer questions about culture and ask the students about their culture.
Last Saturday everybody brought some Brazilian cuisine. There was brigadeiro, ¨sighs¨i dont remember the word in portuguese, 2 types of cake that wasnt made with flour but was good, some kind of lemon mousse, pão de queijo (that was my favorite!), and I brought my chocolate chip cookies and snickerdoodles. It was cool.

When I came home from class, Sarah and Sophia were playing and I guess we decided to be a bunch of fatties! hahahahaha The pictures are the events that followed...

The Party Bus

Saturday:

We woke up at 10am and realized we slept really soundly. After having a little breakfast of cheese with bread and some yogurt drink that I really like *super filling and tastes good, two really good things*, we piled into the party bus and went to pick up Danielle and Maeinha from Olinda (they went to a business meeting). After picking them up, we went to Old Olinda and it was amazing!!!! I loved everything!!! As we got into this old downtown where they have Carnival, some guy jumped into our car and told us he´d help us get around. Apparently he noticed what kind of an obvious tourist I was with my head out the window taking pictures of everything I saw because it was all new and exciting and different and in another language. So like any official tour guide, he told us all kinds of crazy stuff about the old city. We saw the first law college of Brazil that was established, big dolls that they use for Carnival, an old hospital, ¨the most beautiful woman in the world, or maybe it was just brazil¨i forget...but we took a picture of her, and little carts selling different knick knacks. Apparently, Dayvisson haggled to lower the price of a pair of earrings and a necklace that we bought. I also tried tapioca for the first time with cheese, butter, and coconut. The tapioca wasn´t like anything I feel like I could describe and the coconut wasn´t sweet, it was just crunchy, but it was good and different. We took lots of pictures there. We also bought little umbrellas from a guy on the street for a good price according to everyone since Dayvisson´s Dad is one of the best world hagglers.

After that, we went back to the temple´s lodge and bought some different church things in portuguese. I really like hanging out with the neices and they seem to like correcting me a lot and it´s pretty funny to understand that my portuguese isn´t good because i´m an american and they only speak the truth. hahahahaha. but I think I´m getting better!!!

After the lodge, we went to a local church that was apparently an old church that the family used to go to when they lived in Recife. It was really awesome to meet so many great people and speak with different people and understand more. I tried my first coxinha in brasil and seafood type coxinha which I forget the name for right now. We also met Dayvisson´s brother Junior and his wife Julianne for the first time for me. They´re all just really nice. After the party or reunion of a few friends, we went outside and I saw an American for the first time since the day before which was kind of weird, so I was really excited. It was an American missionary and I just yelled at him ¨hey you´re an american me too!!!!! Where are u from???!!!¨and talked with him a little bit. I guess he was surrounded by a lot of kids under the age of 8 which I hadn´t realized until a little boy about that age came up to me while I was about to get into the party bus and just stared at me for a good 15 seconds like I was an alien. I asked him how he was in portuguese and english and he barely answered me and then ran away. It was really funny!!!

We piled into the party bus again to go to Campina Grande where Dayvisson´s family is living right now because Dayvisson´s sister´s husband is studying to get a degree there to get a PhD. Anyways, we got in the bus and watched ¨Provo de Fogo¨which was kind of different.
We were on our way there and finally got to his parents house and slept like rocks.

Brasil so far!

Just some brief updates.

Friday:

The first thing we noticed when we got off the plane was that everyone was wearing masks at the receiving point when Brazilians and ¨others¨. Apparently, Brasil´s airport in Recife is taking all preventative and non-necessary precautions to protect their country.
Next, Kelsi met all of the nieces, and the 3 sisters. Deborah, Dayvisson´s sister who´s had some medical problems in the past was a back-breaker hugger and she´s known for not taking no for an answer...very strong.

We all piled into a party bus and I was given my first taste of juice ¨suco de ova¨which was different and some sweet popcorn called ¨pipoca doce¨ and the nieces are all under the age of 6 and all really awesome to be with because they speak simple things.
Our first stop was at a bunch of houses to meet old friends and places that their family has lived in Recife. It was all very different, and I almost smacked a motorcyclist in the head when I stuck out my hand out the window. The cars drive pretty close together on the roads.

First thing I ate was at a churrasco where the ketchup had a hint of a rum taste and the place had mouthwash in the bathrooms and there were two vendors who just walked into this outdoor restaurant. One vendor sold cds which one dayvisson bought two cds from and lowered the price, and the other was selling belts and demonstrating how cool they were at the table. Really funny! Another thing cool about the food I noticed there was that the flavors were super strong! Nobody beat around the bush to demonstrate that their was salt or that soda was soda or vinagrette was vinagrette. Everything had a kick and it was awesome. We took pictures

After, we went to a friend´s house (Marlene) (*this was very awesome because I tried Dayvisson´s favorite juice suco de caja*) and tried to fix our party bus´s AC because it wasn´t working which was pretty difficult because it was extremely hot and humid. After a few hours that Dayvisson´s Dad and the driver were gone and playing with the neices, we went to the Recife Temple lodge, left all of our huge luggages there, took showers (after the 24 hour trip, so I was way excited), and went to an institute dance nearby to see some old friends of the family and dance. EVERYBODY went, including the neices but apparently it´s common. It was really hot but a lot of fun and we took pictures and met Fred and other friends.

We went back to the temple lodge to sleep and I continued to try to communicate with everybody. Especially the neices and Daysiane who speak slow enough for me to understand things. We played Uno and went to bed. Awesome day!

also...6 days people!!!! 6!!! at this time next week, we will be in BRAZIL!!! It's hard to wait to see so many people who live so far away! Driving me crazy! hahahahahaha

Dayvisson and I are playing in a championship intramural soccer game tonight at 8:15 at the RB outdoor field if anyone is at all interested.

And I finally used my payless gift card. 4 pairs of shoes!!! i love getting deals (and i think dayvisson likes that too hahahaha)!!

AND 2 more finals to go until i'm through for the summer!!!!! yahoooooooooooooooo!!! and really happy about life right now... :)

Last week we had the opportunity to go to the Brasilian Ward in Orem for the first time! Wow that was a new and different experience!

After, we made our way up to Bountiful to meet Dayvisson's Mission President, President Jones. Not only him...but almost all 100 family members! We loved President Jones Mother who was quick on her feet to get everything in order for all of her hungry guests. Even a flashlight to look at all of her family! A wonderful Sunday!

So I know that we post pictures a lot, because it's kind of like a visual time capsule. BUT, I had this thought this morning and just wanted to say, I LOVE being married!! As cheesy as that sounds...but it's true!! Like those times when you wake up in the morning, go to church and just remember how precious life is, and just want to express how much you love somebody. Dayvisson is one of the coolest people on the planet and I can't even explain it because u'd have to spend as much time as I do with him to know I think...and maybe that's one of the reasons why people get married. To really comprehend how awesome their spouse is and help them reach their true potential. Do you ever feel like while you're driving in a car that you want to stick your head out the window and say "YAY we're MARRIED! And it rocks!" hahahahahahaha! okay well marriage can be tough, but i hope everyone i know gets to meet Dayvisson and know him because he's just that cool. Don't mean to be embarrassing or all lovey dovey...just one of those days that you want to express appreciation in words.

We recently celebrated our one year anniversary!

Summer 2008: Our roadtrip

On our way over to Florida we got a free night in Las Vegas and stopped at the nearest InNout. The next day we took a tour at Hoover Dam, went through Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico. We stayed the night in Navajo, New Mexico (there were a lot of tepees at the side of the road). The next day we woke up and finished New Mexico, Texas, and Louissiana. We stayed the night in Louissiana and we could already tell the difference between Utah and Louissiana in terms of humidity the first night. The next day there was a crazy storm in Louissiana, but we made it through the rest of the trip finishing in Jacksonville. Great trip
This is me at Hoover Dam trying to make enough energy as the Hoover Dam by moving a wheel as fast as I can. I did pretty well considering my massive biceps.

While in Jacksonville, we hit a couple of beaches! Our last beach that we went to was the best. We tried to build a sand castle, but gave up about five minutes into it. It was my first experience with warm salt water and the Atlantic Ocean. I got burned a few times being a white meat, but I think I’m tenderizing well.

Before we left Florida, we decided to make the most out of our experience by going to Disneyworld. We loved Animal Kingdom! The rides were great, the shows were awesome, and the food was good! Epcot was pretty exciting as well, and it was neat to see what was actually in the huge silver ball. We took pictures with Mickey and Goofy, saw the Lion King showcase, went on a safari, road on a ferri to the magic kingdom, ate a big turkey leg, saw the night time show, and oddly enough we didn’t run into any lines. It was great!

We were in Florida for about a month and a half, but decided to come back home to Provo to work up at BYU’s Alumni Family Camp Aspen Grove. Our way back, we traveled in two days through Tennessee, Nebraska, Georgia (and saw the baseball stadium), Wyoming, Iowa, not in that order. So we've been working in the mountains! Dayvisson is a cook and Kelsi is a dining hall employee. It's different from last summer, but it's been a great one. What we're up to now? We're coming up on our 8 months tomorrow, and going to Tyler's farewell soon for his mission.

Also this summer, we had our first family BBQ on the 4th of July. Dayvisson made bacon wrapped chicken, pinapple, chicken, pork, and top sirloin. Kelsi made muddie buddies and water balloons! We played soccer, had a waterballoon fight, and watched the fireworks from the Provo temple lawn. Todd, Rachel Stolworthy, Diana Gardner, Fonseca and Ronnie with their wives, Edson, Claudia, Craig Foster, Nate Duncan, Sydney Carter, Matt Gardner, Ryan, and Amelie. It was a ton of fun and Kelsi hopes we have another one soon!!!
